I studied at North Staffordshire Polytechnic where I obtained an M.A. in ceramics.
Having worked for 20 years as a modeller for the pottery manufacturer Josiah Wedgwood and Sons, I am well grounded in the creation of both Bas-Relief and 3Dimensional sculptures for the ceramics industry.
My own work attemts to capture the essence of a pose, or the character of the sitter, without the need to represent every detail. I feel, however, in order to reproduce the human form it is important to have an understanding of the underlying structures, and to this end I study life drawing and also make anatomical sketch models.
Most of my pieces are sculpted in Terra-Cotta, which helps to give them a sense of freshness and spontaneity.
Whilst working as a freelance sculptor producing models for the pottery industry, I am pleased to undertake commissions on request.
